LifeSouth established the Five Points of Life Foundation to educate and raise awareness of the five ways to share life through the donation of blood, apheresis, marrow, cord blood and organ/tissue. We teach the importance of donation because it is vital to the health of our communities. We do this through two programs, Five Points in the Classroom and Five points of Life Kids Marathons. To date, the foundation has reached more than 125,000 children in Alabama, Georgia and Florida. We believe education is the answer for the future by creating the Donation Generation.
LifeSouth established a public cord blood bank program in 1998 called LifeCord, which has the first of its kind in the Southeast. LifeCord is FDA licensed and collects umbilical cord blood from newborns at 12 hospitals in the three states we service. To date, the stem cells from our collections were used for 200 transplants in 29 states and 17 foreign countries.
LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. This group of dedicated community leaders provides crucial guidance that enables us to fulfill our mission. Local Advisory Councils from each region elect a representative to the board. Their support and assistance is invaluable to the success of our mission.
